One of my biggest pet peeves working in the media is that some of my colleagues have trouble differentiating between real news and a seriously intense ego stroke. They’ll take a story about an actual issue, and turn it into a debate — sometimes lasting days, or even months — about whether some other media dolt’s criticism of their COVERAGE of the issue was fair.
Newsflash: Your ego isn’t newsworthy. And no one gives a frig. Hot damn, do I ever get seriously perturbed when they fail to distinguish between “news” and “ego”.
I wish they’d actually come out and warn their audience (or readers) that they’re about to waste precious minutes of people’s lives on their own insecurities. That way, folks would know when to tune out, and can come back when the public therapy session is over.
So that’s why I’m telling you, in advance, that the rest of this post is about me. Totally self-promotional. Not newsworthy at all.
Ok, so you’ve been warned.
I’m doing the Dennis Miller Radio Show on Wednesday, Sept 19th, at 8:15am PST (11:15am EST), syndicated on the Westwood One Radio Network.
Also, here’s the audio for an interview I did recently about the 2008 race, Larry Craig, Canada, France, the current media culture, etc. Click the “listen” link to open the audio.
